CAM - The Complete Account Manager

Manage users & passwords

CAM from Rubicon Software Group provides the tools to manage users for email, cloud services, and Rubicon applications. Most Rubicon applications support user management internally but can also use CAM so a single interface exists for multiple apps and services. It is required for eMsg. CAM includes functions for email management and cloud groups.

Note that all hosted email and cloud services already include CAM. It is also required for Rubicon eMsg Messenger!

ETXMail uses CAM

If you have ever used or have had experience with ETXMail, then you have already seen CAM up close. You can use it to change your password, set up an auto-responder email for vacations or illness, setup spam blockers, and forward your email to another email account. It has been around in some version on all Network Technologies email servers since 2007. We added cloud account synchronization in 2014. The current version 2.2 has been around since 2020.

Administration...

If you are assigned an admin user account you see the main menu when you log in. Regular users go straight to their account administration. An Admin account has access to all user accounts and passwords. They can create new users and disable or remove users. They can setup groups and assign users to the groups. They can create aliases for another existing user or external email account. They can access similar functions for other Rubicon applications like eMsg as shown to the left. They can manage cloud account synchronization and many other features in Setting and Maintenance menus.

Managing user accounts...

Managing user accounts are easy with CAM. Whether it is email/cloud or a Rubicon application it starts here. We will deal with email/cloud accounts only going forward but each Rubicon application will be similar and use the same base user account as you see to the right. They will have application specific options to be enabled or selected.

Adding a user account...

Cam creates a new user in the panel shown at the left. It may automatically assign a unique password for new users by default but will allow you to enter one manually. When a user is added, CAM speaks directly to the mail server (even if far away) and create the users and all the system mail folders for the user. If you have synchronized cloud service it will do the same on the cloud server where ever it may be located. CAM actually manages the remote servers from a single location and you may experience a slight delay while it communicates to create the users on the remote servers.

Modifying an existing user...

Whether and admin clicking on a name in the account list or a regular user logging into CAM you get the user account panel shown to the right. You can modify everything except the actual email address. A regular user will not see the Admin or Enabled checkbox of course. The actual mail  server will communicate with CAM to implement the vacation mail auto-responder and spam blocking entries.

More

Managing Groups...

CAM groups are for email, cloud, and eMsg. You can create a group called "test" and assign users from your domain and that will create an email address that will serve everyone in the group. Sending an email to "test@emesgonlin.com", as shown to the left, will actually be delivered to Jeremiah, Stephen, and whoever is about to be added to the group. If you have cloud services, the same group with the same members will be created in the cloud as well.

Managing eMsg accounts

If you are using Rubicon eMsg Messenger, you will have access to a CAM sub-menu to enable/disable CAM accounts for eMsg, set up mobile phone numbers and carriers, and create eMsg groups like you can in CAM for email/cloud.

At right you see the menu in CAM for eMsg Messenger. This is only available if you have the eMsg Messenger service along with CAM. This is an extra cost feature and not necessarily present in your CAM instance.

Setting and Maintenance...

In the Settings and Maintenance menu you have control over the color scheme and many other options for CAM. There are maintenance options with import and export for CAM accounts. You can get information about the server that CAM is running on or the actual mail server if they are different. The Rubicon Backup system is built in (CAM Backup Manager) and can be setup to do automatic backups of CAM and it's databases.
